Acting Up!

Unleash your inner performer and nurture your spirit with "Acting Up!,” a dynamic and supportive beginner theatre arts program designed specifically for youth aged 7-13. We believe that the stage is not just a place for performance, but a powerful platform for personal growth, fostering self-expression, and cultivating robust mental well-being.

Our theatre arts program goes beyond traditional acting classes, integrating intentional activities and a supportive environment to help young participants flourish both creatively and personally by:

  • Building Unshakeable Confidence: Through engaging theatre games, improvisation exercises, scene work, and vocal training, participants will discover their unique voice and presence. We encourage stepping outside comfort zones in a safe, non-judgmental space, celebrating every effort and fostering a sense of accomplishment that translates far beyond the stage.
  • Enhancing Emotional Intelligence & Expression: Theatre provides a unique avenue for exploring and understanding emotions. Participants will delve into character development, empathy exercises, and storytelling, learning healthy ways to express a wide range of feelings, improving their ability to connect with others and articulate their inner world.
  • Boosting Self-Esteem & Self-Worth: Every participant is a valuable member of our ensemble. We emphasize collaborative creation, positive peer feedback, and individual strengths. Discover the Power of Imagination! Our Dungeons and Dragons Program offers an immersive and unique avenue to foster mental health and resilience through collaborative storytelling, strategic thinking, and character development.

Dungeons and Dragons helps foster:

  • Enhanced Social Skills: D&D encourages teamwork and social interaction, helping participants improve their communication skills and build meaningful relationships.
  • Cognitive Development: The strategic elements of D&D stimulate critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, promoting cognitive flexibility.
  • Emotional Regulation: Incorporating elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), our program helps participants learn emotional regulation skills, manage stress, and navigate complex feelings.
  • Improved Self-Esteem: Role-playing allows individuals to step into different personas, fostering self-exploration and confidence-building through character development.
  • Creative Expression: Storytelling through character creation and world-building nurtures creativity and serves as a therapeutic outlet for expressing emotions.

Nikki Campbell

Artistic Director of Brantford Theatre Company and Expressive Arts Studio

Nicole (Nikki) Campbell is a 36 year old multi-disciplinary artist and playwright living in rural Norfolk County with her two children. She has been teaching visual and theatre arts for over 13 years in various settings across Southern Ontario, with students of all ages and abilities. In 2013 she founded a popular non profit arts organization in Norfolk County called Art with Heart Studio and works in Set Design/Construction in the summer with Lighthouse Theatre’s Young Company. To date, Nikki has written, directed and produced 17 plays/musicals for youth actors. She happily serves as the Artistic Director of Brantford Theatre Company & Expressive Arts Studio, and works in Peer Support as a Therapeutic Art Coach at Concepts in Mental Health & Resilience.
